So who is he telling this to? Another detective who wants to know why the famous brilliant detective hero went "rogue" and killed a cop, maybe? The dangerous woman of his OWN story? Or us the reader who wants to know how it all started, before he became famous for catching the deadliest serial killer since Hannibal? Excellent.
